School Development #1: Creating A Learning Organisation
This article highlights some of the accepted definitions of a Learning Organisation and offers one of our own. The 5 key and essential components are given, all of which must be implemented simultaneously for organisation development to occur. An example is given of how an NGO was created in Nepal using these components before a short advisory is highlighted to transform any school into a full learning organisation in any scenario. This is especially important for schools in developing countries if quality education is to be created.
Quality Education-Adding The Moral Dimension (29.03.16)
This article describes a process for adding moral education into schools and education systems in developing countries. Our V4C process comprises 10 steps and can be easily learned and implemented in any school. However governments and Ministries of Education need to take firm and positive action to ensure the children are developed holistically and go beyond the mere cognitive inputs of literacy, numeracy, science, etc. Becoming a good citizen is just as important! Quality Education-Whole System Change (20.03.16)
The third article in our research series describes the transformation process for system change. A number of well known systems models are given which show a number of features common to education systems before one is chosen and adapted for use in ANY developing country. This model is then populated with components from the Nepal Quality Education Framework to show how a clear definition of quality is essential before system change can proceed. Measuring Quality Education-The QEPT (07.03.16)
This is the second in our research series of articles about defining, measuring, developing the quality of education in primary schools in developing countries. The article specifically describes the development of a perception test, the Quality Education Perception Test (QEPT) which can be used to measure progress in school improvement or the development of whole education systems. It MUST be used in conjunction with a clearly defined framework for quality education however and therefore relates closely to the first article in this series below. Defining Quality Education-The Nepal Framework (08.07.15)
This is our first research article and describes the work involved in creating a framework of quality education in Nepal primary schools. The detailed research was conducted over an 18 months period in Kathmandu, but drew on almost 5 years of work with 200 primary schools in Nepal. The framework should be an essential part of any strategy to develop an education system, it gives direction to transforming the system and identifies areas for specific change or improvement.
